Codec-Packs gibt es viele, hier gibt es das Paket von K-Lite:

Ist eine .exe Datei, das Programm wird einfach nur installiert, außerdem installiert es auch den Media Player Classic, aber ich weiß nicht, welches Betriebssystem du benutzt, bei XP oder Vista würde ich vorsichtshalber vor der Installation einen Widerherstellungspunkt erstellen.

Gibt aber auch noch mehr als genug andere Programme, die MP3s abspielen können...

Vielleicht ist das hier besser geeignet für dich, weil das K-Lite überwiegend Videocodecs beinhaltet.

Aber bitte nicht alle installieren, dann kann leicht etwas schiefgehen.

lass doch den player den codec selber holen.

Ich würde den Mediaplayer eh nicht verwenden, wer weiß in welcher Datenbank die Files gespeichert werden, die ich damit abspiele...

nachdem ich die betreffende mp3-datei angklickt hatte, öffnete sich der media player mit der beschriebenen meldung. das fenster bot auch die möglichkeit "webhilfe". natürlich hatte ich das zuerst probiert, ich kam dadurch auf folgende webseite:
