Robin Harper, Vice President der Second Life Betreiber Firma Linden Lab, hat zur aktuellen Diskussion um Second Life in Deutschland das folgende offizielle Statement abgegeben:
"Second Life is a 3D virtual world in which all the content is created and owned by its Residents. It’s used by individuals, businesses, non-profits and educational organizations to communicate and collaborate in an immersive and compelling way. The vast majority of Residents use Second Life in an empowering and beneficial fashion. But just like a 3D version of the Web, some seek to abuse the system and behave in a broadly offensive manner. We have strict Terms of Service and Community Standards to ensure Second Life is not used for illegal purposes, and to prevent one Resident’s behavior disrupting another’s enjoyment.
Linden Lab is morally opposed to and has absolutely zero tolerance for child pornography within Second Life. We were outraged to see the images that ARD, the German TV network, showed us, and have cooperated with the German authorities investigating this case. Child pornography is illegal and as such is a breach of our Terms of Service. It goes without saying that anyone engaged in this activity will be permanently banned from Second Life. If we learn of these activities we will notify authorities, and people engaged in such activities will be subject to legal consequences.
All Residents assert that they are over 18 and that they will not use Second Life for illegal purposes, and most respect and abide by this pledge." [...]
